Applications are invited for a 24-month Research Associate position in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, Cambridge. The position is funded by the EPSRC Programme Grant EP/NO3198X/1 held by Prof. Mark Gross (University of Cambridge), Prof. Miles Reid (University of Warwick), and Prof. Alessio Corti and Prof. Tom Coates (Imperial College London).

The successful candidate should have a PhD in a subject close to algebraic geometry, or have an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. The applicant must also have a demonstrable research track record in algebraic geometry or a related discipline, and it is essential that he/she has experience of working in one or more of the following areas: explicit constructions in algebraic geometry; toric or tropical geometry; mirror symmetry (including the Gross-Siebert program).

The post holder must be committed to conducting research related to our program and should display clear evidence of promise and originality in research, as well as having a good publication record. A high degree of self-motivation and independence will be required. They will also be expected to work effectively within a team, have the ability to develop and apply new concepts, and have a creative approach to problem-solving. Demonstration of excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication will be expected. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, and plan and deliver seminars relating to the research area.
