Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate in computational mathematics in connection with a collaborative project between Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (Dr. Anders Hansen) and Cavendish Physics Laboratory (Dr. Andrew Jardine). The project focuses on using modern mathematical techniques to reduce acquisition time in microscopy, and the successful candidate will work closely with the Cavendish team on practical applications.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science or related areas.

The project emphasises practical implementations, and a strong background in programming is needed. Knowledge of compressed sensing, optimisation, and inverse problems will be very useful, as well as some theoretical background in signal and image processing.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research projects. You will be expected to plan and manage your own research and administration, with guidance from academic staff. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.
