Salary: £32,816 p.a. – £40,322 p.a.

A position exists for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (the Aviva Research Fellow) from 1 March 2020, in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to work for the Cambridge Centre for Data Driven Discovery (C2D3) in partnership with Aviva, a founding member of C2D3. The co-directors of C2D3 are Professor Mihaela Van der Schaar (Mathematics) and Professor Anna Vignoles (Education).
The role holder will undertake short and long term research projects, in collaboration with Aviva, and provide short course training in data science methods, as well as consultancy advice as appropriate. There will be opportunities for the post holder to develop their own research projects.

Topics currently identified as of particular interest within the context of the University’s partnership with Aviva range from the methodological to the empirical, including machine learning methodologies, personalised medicine, pension provision, transparency in algorithms and issues relating to data ethics.
Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.
The successful candidate will have, or about to receive a PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. data science, physics, economics, bioinformatics) and will have a sound understanding of data science methodologies.
