Postdoc in Mathematical Biology at Oxford (2yr duration)
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Computational Modelling of Ocular Drug Retention and Delivery to work with Professors Eamonn Gaffney and Philip Maini at the Mathematical Institute, and Dr Antonello Caruso at F. Hoffmann-La Roche, on a project modelling ocular drug retention and delivery. This is a full time position, fixed-term for 24 months, and is funded by a research grant from F. Hoffmann-La Roche. The post-holder will be based at the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology (WCMB) at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford, with occasional travel to F. Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland.
Ophthalmology drug development is a rapidly growing area aiming to fulfil the unmet medical need for durable and more efficacious treatments. In turn, this motivates the supervisors’ continuing development of a rational and quantitative mechanism-based computational modelling framework for understanding ocular drug retention and concomitant drug levels within the target site of the retina. This project will advance this modelling programme, and further areas of development include taking into account finer grained spatial heterogeneity within the eye, the incorporation of novel drug designs, together with prospective ocular drug retention technologies and integrating the models with Bayesian inference for comparisons with data. The successful candidate will write up their results for publication, present papers at conferences, contribute ideas for new research projects, and organise activities relevant to the WCMB, alongside managing their own academic research and administrative activities.
Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematical biology, applied mathematics, scientific computing, physiological modelling or a related discipline. They will also possess sufficient specialist knowledge to work within the established research programme, and have excellent communication skills.
Please direct informal enquiries to the Recruitment Coordinator (email: vacancies@maths.ox.ac.uk), quoting vacancy reference 149153.
