PhD student position in CRC 1456 Mathematics of Experiment (University of Göttingen)
The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1456 Mathematics of Experiment: The challenge of indirect measurements in the natural sciences at the Georg-August-University Göttingen offers the position of a PhD student. The PhD student will work on the project C01 “Density matrix reconstructions in ultrafast free electron optics”. This project investigates the mathematical foundations of new experimental technique and will exploit its potential towards the nanoscale study of electron-matter interactions. This research project will either focus on the inverse problem to reconstruct electron density matrices from observed energy spectra or on the numerical and analytical study of plasmonic resonances and inference on such resonances from experimental data.
We are looking for candidates with a MSc. degree (or equivalent) in mathematics and background in inverse problems or partial differential equations. A willingness to work in a interdisciplinary team with researchers from different fields (e.g. physics, biology or chemistry) is also desirable.
