PhD student position on developing a mathematical model framework for biological ion channels at WIAS, Berlin, Germany
WIAS invites applications for a
PhD student position (f/m/d)
(Ref. 21/26)
in the Research Group
“Thermodynamic Modeling and Analysis of Phase Transitions”
(Head: Prof. Dr. B. Wagner) starting at April 1st, 2022.
The position is tied to the MATH+ Cluster of excellence project AA1-14:
Development of an Ion-Channel Model-Framework for in- vitro assisted
interpretation of current voltage relations
The project aims at developing a mathematical model framework for biological ion channels, which control a large fraction of biological processes. Goal is a model-based interpretation of current-voltage relations of calcium ion channels on the basis of partial differential equations. The research plan covers (i) mathematical modeling using continuum non-equilibrium thermodynamics (ii) numerical implementations (iii) inverse problems and (iv) validation studies.
We are looking for candidates with a master’s degree and a strong background in applied mathematics, bio-mathematics, theoretical (bio) physics or electrical engineering. Prior knowledge in continuum mechanics, asymptotic analysis, or numerical methods for partial differential equations are beneficial.
