We are seeking a highly motivated full time Research Associate in Data analysis to join the Cambridge Centre for AI Medicine (CCAIM) directed by Professor Mihaela van der Schaar and co-directed by Professor Andres Floto.
The post will be based in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. The post is available for 3 years in the first instance and requests for flexible/part-time working will be considered.
You will be part of the CCAIM group, whose goal is to develop and apply new machine learning methods to solve challenges in medicine.
CCAIM provides an exciting multidisciplinary research environment with strong collaborations with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), and University of Cambridge Departments Biochemistry, Chemistry and Engineering.
The post holder will be responsible for the extraction and curation of clinical and biological metadata, implementing machine learning methods in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary group of researchers within CCAIM.
Duties also include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline as well as previous demonstrable experience in the analysis of data and programming, particularly in Python. Development of algorithms and Artificial Intelligence techniques and experience with graphic packages and scientific writing are also desirable.
