PhD student position (f/m/d) (Ref. 22/25) on Interface dynamics: Bridging stochastic and hydrodynamic descriptions at WIAS, Berlin, Germany

WIAS invites applications for a
PhD student position (f/m/d)
(Ref. 22/25)
in the Research Group
“Interacting Random Systems”
(Head: Prof. Dr. W. König) starting not earlier than 1. August 2022.
The task is to analyze large interacting random systems, for example the “Exclusion Process”, which model diffusion and evaporation processes in aerosols. The project will be carried out in cooperation with physicists at the FU-Berlin as part of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre CRC1114 “Scaling Cascades in Complex Systems” (http://www.mi.fu-berlin.de/en/sfb1114/)
An academic university degree (master’s or diploma) in mathematics or a closely related field is expected. Interest in the application of mathematics to physical problems and associated communication skills will be important. Experience in one or more of the areas of Markov processes, variational calculus and large deviations would strengthen your application.
Please direct scientific queries to Dr. Robert Patterson (Robert.Patterson@wias-berlin.de) or Dr. Marita Thomas (Marita.Thomas@wias-berlin.de).
The position is paid according to TVöD Bund and is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of an extension for a further year. The reduced working hours are 29.25 hours per week.
