Retreat for Women in Applied Mathematics
A pilot event titled “Retreat for Women in Applied Mathematics” will take place at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Edinburgh from the 9th-13th January 2023.
The event is being organised by Prof Apala Majumdar (University of Strathclyde) and Dr Angela Mihai (Cardiff University). This event is open to everyone (regardless of gender) in principle.
The aims of the Retreat is to offer participants at all stages of their career a unique opportunity to network and learn about best academic practices. The programme comprises research talks and round-table discussions on career paths, management and leadership, research funding, impact and innovation, university teaching, student supervision, and peer-reviewing, which are usually only informally discussed at conventional workshops and conferences. The overarching goal is to build a strong support network for female applied mathematicians, designed, and led by women mathematicians, that will long serve as a source of inspiration, mentoring and collaboration, to foster trust, solidarity, confidence, and forward-looking future initiatives.
Registration will open on 1 September 2022. In the meantime, the organisers and the ICMS encourage all interested parties to register their interest via the webform available at the event’s website: Retreat for Women in Applied Mathematics | ICMS – International Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
We look forward to welcoming you at the RWAM event in January 2023!
With best regards,
Apala Majumdar and Angela Mihai.
