We are looking for an exceptional early career researcher. The successful candidate’s duties include research and teaching in applied mathematics with a focus on one of the research areas: dynamical systems, mathematical modeling, numerical mathematics, partial differential equations, qualitative theories of ordinary and partial differential equations. Ideas for working with new and existing collaborative projects in the field, in particular with the Lothar Collatz Center for Computing in Science as well as the RTG2583, CRC181, CLICCS, and DASHH collaborative projects, as well as collaborative projects with the Hamburg University of Technology are desired.

The successful candidate is expected to take part in the University’s core research area Climate, Earth and Environment .

The successful candidate is further expected to participate actively in the instruction of students pursuing a teacher training degree in the respective discipline.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Additional criteria

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects.

The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

Non-German-speaking post holders are expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment.

Junior professors have academic autonomy in their research and teaching. Applicants’ subject interests are expected to relate to topics in the area of applied mathematics.
