Postdoc scholarship (2 years) in design theory (mathematics)
The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at Umeå University is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within the project “New classes of experimental designs”. The scholarship is full-time for two years with starting date 1 September, 2023 or by agreement.
Project description:
In the 1950s, a class of array designs known as triple arrays were shown to be highly efficient in eliminating the influence of two factors in an experiment, but despite their potential, these designs are rarely used, in part due to severe restrictions on the possible size of the experiment. In previous work, we have shown that a similar restriction on size can be overcome for Youden rectangles, without sacrificing too much of the statistical strength. The current project aims to investigate similar approaches to triple arrays. This promises to lead to the development of experimental designs that are almost as good as triple array designs in eliminating confounding factors, but that work for any size.
Depending on the interests of the appointee, there is the opportunity to mainly work on computational, statistical, or combinatorial aspects of these questions.
Umeå offers excellent working and living conditions. The city is young and located right next to a large river. It is surrounded by forests and lakes and lies close by the sea. In the vicinity there are plenty of opportunities for both indoor and outdoor activities.
