Two Postdoctoral fellowships in Earth System Data Assimilation
The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) seeks two postdoctoral fellows to be based in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading.
1. NCEO Fellow in Data Assimilation for the Water Cycle
The fellow will undertake research contributing towards the building of a new hydrological reanalysis system for the UK using the community land-surface HydroJULES system, exploiting heterogeneous observation types (e.g., satellite and ground-based soil moisture, river gauges, flood extent data)..
2. NCEO Strategic Research Scientist
We need a motivated scientist interested in working on Earth System Data Assimilation, and evaluation of the Coupled Energy, Water and Carbon cycles, using remotely sensed data and model reanalyses. The work will initially involve diagnosing existing data products and developing improved products by assessing energy, water and carbon budgets over land and oceans.
Each post is a full-time, fixed term post of up to 24 months. NCEO receives long-term national capability funding from NERC. It may be possible to extend the post subject to the availability of funding, and alignment to NCEO’s future strategic scientific requirements.
Deadline for applications 23 June 2023
