We seek to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the Department of Mathematics as part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science led by Professor Elaine Crooks. The successful candidate will have expertise in the area of Statistics or Computational Probability. We are seeking applicants with excellent research potential and a publication record of international quality, who are keen to embrace research interdisciplinarity with an open mind across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and beyond, and who have experience or clear potential of innovative teaching in the areas of Statistics, Probability and Financial Mathematics, including computational aspects and practical laboratory-based components.
The Department of Mathematics at Swansea University is highly rated for both teaching and research: the National Student Survey 2022 placed it 20th in the UK for overall satisfaction and in REF 2021, it was ranked joint 16th in the UK for the overall quality of its research and joint top for impact, with 100% of impact cases rated as world leading and 100% of the department’s publications rated as world-leading and internationally excellent. The department is home to six research groups: Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Analysis and Nonlinear PDEs, Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, Probability, Research in Mathematics Education. Since September 2018, the department has been based in the new £31M purpose-built Computational Foundry, the home of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The appointed postholder will complement the existing expertise within our vibrant Probability group (https://www.swansea.ac.uk/maths/research-and-impact/probability/) and will have the capacity to interact with other research groups in the Department and beyond. As all our courses are research-led and practice-driven, the successful applicant should be able to bring their research background into their teaching to enhance our students’ experience.
