Clausthal University of Technology, 8 Oct 2023, Professorship for Numerical Mathematics
The Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the position of University Professor (Salary ScaleW3 NBesO) „Numerical Mathematics” (m/f/d) at the Institute of Mathematics as soon as possible.
The research focus of the professorship should be in the area of numerics of partial differential equations. Experience with the treatment of nonlinear or non-smooth evolution equations is desired. Possible research topics include a priori and a posteriori error analysis or adaptivity
of numerical discretization methods. Besides the relation to current research topics of other groups at the Institute of Mathematics, for example on continuous optimization or stochastic partial differential equations, experience with applications in engineering, economics, or natural sciences is also desired.
We are looking for internationally renowned personalities with a research area that complements the existing focus areas at the Institute of Mathematics. The successful candidate should actively contribute to the further development of the research profile of the
institute as well as to the development of the study program “Industrial/Applied Mathematics”. He or she should have a strong inclination towards interdisciplinary work and application- oriented questions, and his/her possible fields of application should match the main research areas of Clausthal University of Technology.
In teaching, participation in the Bachelor’s program “Industrial/Applied Mathematics” including basic mathematical education and teaching in the consecutive Master’s program (e.g. Numerics of Partial Differential Equations, Finite Volume Methods), as well as in the service offering for other disciplines (e.g. Mathematical Foundations of Electrical Engineering) is required.
Moreover, applicants are expected to participate in coordinated interdisciplinary programmes.
