The EWM event at the 9th European Congress of Mathematics (9ECM) in Sevilla, Spain, will take place on

Sunday 14 July 2024 (the day before the ECM commences).

at the Facultad de Bellas Artes.

It will consist of five mathematical talks from across mathematics, plus a panel discussion and other networking opportunities.

9:00 Introduction + icebreaker

9:30-10:15 Elena Gaburro (Bordeaux).  Advanced numerical methods for simulations in fluid-dynamics and astrophysics.

10:15-10:45 Coffee

10:45-11:30 Tara Brendle (Glasgow).  Symmetries of surfaces

11:45-12:30 Jessica Fintzen (Bonn) An introduction to representations of p-adic groups

12:30 – 2:30 Lunch + visit to the Church of the Annunciation

2:30-3:15 Maria Yakerson (Oxford).  The beauty of the beast

3:15-3:45 Coffee

3:45-4:30 Chiara Saffirio (Basel). From microscopic to macroscopic scales: effective evolution equations of many interacting particles

4:45 – 6 Panel activity

This event, organised by European Women in Mathematics (EWM), will consist of a brief introduction to the “Women of Mathematics from around the world” touring exhibition, followed by a panel discussion on some recent best practices and challenges for continuing towards a more inclusive mathematical community.

The exhibition offers a glimpse into the world of mathematics through photographs and excerpts of interviews of 34 women mathematicians from around the world.
