European Women in Mathematics is an international association of women in mathematics in Europe. Deeply aware of the challenges faced as a member of a minority group, we focus on fostering and sustaining a welcoming community for women but also explicitly welcome individuals from the LGBTQ+ community, people with illness or disabilities (visible and invisible) and members of other traditionally underrepresented groups to find support and fellowship within our activities. Founded in 1986, EWM has several hundred members and coordinators in 33 European countries.

Supporting women and other gender minorities in their careers
Promoting scientific communication
Providing a meeting place for like-minded people
Organising and advertising in-person and virtual opportunities for members of traditionally underrepresented groups to listen to each other, be heard and create positive change
Raising awareness about gender issues in mathematics, including by gathering and disseminating statistics about the situation of women in mathematics in Europe, and advocating for positive change and best practices
Cooperating with groups and organisations with similar goals, standing in solidarity with minorities (racial minorities, neurodivergent individuals, people with disabilities or mental health issues)

Women and Mathematics across Cultures
This 25-minute video was produced by European Women in Mathematics (EWM). Directed by Marjatta Näätänen (University of Helsinki), it profiles the stories of four women mathematicians with careers based in Europe and N. & S. America. The women recount their personal experiences and look at the impact of cultural pressures and differences.
