This year, PTKM (Polish Women in Mathematics Association) is organizing an accompanying event titled “Infinite possibilities: What can I do with a PhD in mathematics?” at the conference “Women in Tech Summit”. The event takes place on the 9th of December, 2020 from 15:00-17:00. We will have five speakers, among them our friend Alessandra Celletti (from the EWM). 

The purpose of this event is to showcase five successful female mathematicians who either transitioned to different STEM-, industry-, and educational-related careers or pursue such careers along their traditional university tenured appointments. We will discuss concrete avenues to promote, educate, encourage, and support women in mathematics, as informed by the speakers’ personal and professional experience. These goals are consistent with the commitment of the organizations represented by our speakers (Polish-, European-, US-Women in Mathematics Associations, the European Mathematical Society and the National Science Foundation) towards recognizing the outstanding scholarship and the pursuit of excellence and innovation by women, across the mathematical and statistical sciences.

1. Urszula Forys: professor of Mathematics, chair of the Section of Biomathematics & Game Theory at the University of Warsaw, chair of the Warsaw branch of Polish Mathematical Society and vice-president of Polish Women in Mathematics Society. Principal investigator on interdisciplinary projects in cooperation with the Institute for Medical Biomathematics in Israel, the Institute of Oncology in Gliwice and the National Forest Research Institute.
2. Edyta Juskowiak: vice-dean for Student Affairs and Teaching at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, head of the Faculty Education Center of Mathematics and Computer Science, manager of LEGO® Education Innovation Studio. Awarded with the  Laurel of Innovation at the  Studies with the Future competition.
3. Alessandra Celletti: professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, vice-president of the governing board of the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes, former member of the board of directors of the Italian Space Agency,  member of the scientific counsel for the European Women in Mathematics, chair of the Women in Mathematics Committee of the European Mathematical Society.
4. Karoline Pershell: chief operating officer at Service Robotics & Technologies, Inc., former AAAS Science & Tech Diplomacy Fellow and the evaluation coordinator at the Department of State, former executive director of the Association for Women in Mathematics, focused on driving institutional change towards creating welcoming environments for women pursuing careers in mathematics.
5. Yuliya Gorb: permanent program director in the Division of Mathematical Sciences of the National Science Foundation, professor of Mathematics at the University of Houston, associate editor of SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics. At the NSF, she handles proposals from research portfolio in Data Science, Quantum Algorithms, and Materials Science, all of which among her current research interests.
