Despite uncertainty about funding (the EEC only made its final decision in favour of EWM a month after the meeting had taken place), over 50 women made it. fernmes et Mathématiques did a wonderful job in scraping together money from here there and everywhere (including the city of Marseille, which invited the participants to a reception in the Mairie).  Many contacts were made: there were representatives from nearly all the former Eastern block countries except, Yugoslavia and Romania.
