Assistant Professor

The department of mathematics at the University of Innsbruck seeks to fill the position of a full-time (40 hours per week) assistant professor as of March 01, 2020. The position is initial limited to 6 years. A tenure track agreement can be offered within the first year of employment and upon its positive evaluation, the position is converted into a tenured associate professorship.

MAIN TASKS
The holder of the position is expected to do independent research in the field of computational algebraic geometry, preferable with applications of the methods and results in other branches of science. Acquisition of third-party funding and building up an independent research group is also a required task.

The holder of the position is expected to prepare and conduct teaching at university level within the study programs of the department of mathematics (in English and subsequently in German). Moreover, the holder of the position is expected to supervise students.

In addition to duties in research and teaching, the holder of the position is expected to initiate cooperations within the department of mathematics and the university and to take part in academic self-administration.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
a) excellent doctoral degree in mathematics or a related field
b) postdoc experience; teaching experience at university level desirable
c) relevant scientific achievements beyond dissertation/PhD level
d) research experience in the field of computational algebraic geometry
e) relevant research success documented via publications in leading international, refereed journals and lectures at international conferences/workshops
f) experience with third-party funding (participation) and with academic self-administration
g) experience in the acquisition of third-party funding would be an advantage
h) mobility experience
i) the ability to work in a team and communication skills

SALARY
