Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Mathematics and Data Science at University of Bath
The Department of Mathematical Sciences are looking to enhance and broaden its current strengths in the mathematical and computational aspects of data science and would welcome your application if you are a mathematician in any field of mathematics with experience working any area of data science including, but not limited to:
• machine learning
• neural networks
• compressed sensing
• imaging and inverse problems
• network science
• optimisation
• uncertainty quantification
• numerical linear algebra
• statistical and stochastic methods
• financial mathematics and data science applied to finance
Applicants in all areas of mathematics are welcome and the appointee will integrate into one or more of the existing research groups in the Department: AGeNT (Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory), Analysis and PDEs, ProbL@B (Probability Laboratory at Bath), Statistics, AIMS (Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics) and NASC (Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing).
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 permanent academic researchers from all areas of Mathematics, and is highly ranked in the UK and in the world. Our Department emphasises the unity of Mathematics and there are strong interactions between all research groups. Impact is achieved through a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects, and industrial collaborations.
These activities are supported by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa), which has currently over 80 PhD students. In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI), promotes, and supports, cross-campus research activities, industrial, and international collaborations, in all areas of mathematics and statistics. Various research centres such as the Centre for Mathematical Biology (CMB), the Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data (MAD), the Centre for Networks and Collective Behaviour (CNCB), and the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics (CNM), provide focus in interdisciplinary collaborations.
Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly encouraged. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment and both hold Athena Swan Silver awards. Flexible working options including part-time will be considered wherever possible. For more information visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/hr/working/flexible-working/
