Lecturer in Disordered Systems/Analysis
Applications are invited for a Lecturer in Disordered Systems/Analysis in the Department of Mathematics at King’s College London. This is part of a continued strategic expansion of Mathematics at King’s, with 13 new posts being advertised across the mathematical sciences.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Mathematics or Theoretical Physics and demonstrate research expertise in some area at the boundary between Disordered Systems (understood in a broad sense) and Analysis or Probability, for example, in applying rigorous methods to describing statistical and/or quantum mechanics of systems with disorder, and their numerous applications. A non-exclusive list of relevant areas includes theory of random matrices and operators, Anderson and many-body localization, spin glasses, percolation, spectral theory of random graphs, nonequilibrium dynamics, neural networks, optimization, statistical inference and machine learning. Strong candidates in other related areas of Analysis, Mathematical Physics, and Probability will be given a serious consideration.
Within the Department the Disordered Systems group contributes to an interdisciplinary MSc programme in Complex Systems Modelling. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research activity of the Department, take part in teaching and examining for the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, make a contribution to the academic organisation of the Department, and have demonstrable ability to attract research funding.
