Permanent Lecturer in Mathematical Finance at Oxford

The Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford, is seeking to appoint to a newly-created, permanent, full-time Departmental Lecturer position in Mathematical and Computational Finance from 1st September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be based at our stunning Andrew Wiles Building in central Oxford.

As Departmental Lecturer, you will make an important contribution to the teaching, research and administration of the Mathematical and Computational Finance Group and wider department. You will have the opportunity to engage in a broad range of activities including advanced study and academic research in the area of Mathematical and Computational Finance, lecturing and teaching (principally but not exclusively) graduate students, and leading independent research projects or specific areas of research within a broad programme. Further information about the group’s activities can be found here: https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/groups/mathematical-finance.

The department is proud to have held an Athena SWAN Silver Award since 2016, and aims for a strategic goal of improving the diversity of its undergraduate and postgraduate students and faculty, in particular the gender balance. The successful candidate is therefore expected to demonstrate experience of engaging with outreach and/or mentoring activities aimed at increasing diversity in mathematics.

With a doctorate in mathematics or a closely related subject, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven ability and/or potential to carry out high quality independent research at an international level in Mathematical and Computational Finance and to attract research funding, alongside effective teaching skills, including the interpersonal skills necessary for undertaking small-group teaching and the supervision and pastoral care of students. They will also be able to show evidence (commensurate with career stage) of an excellent track record in attracting research grants and of supervising research students, together with experience and competence in administration.

We proudly hold a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award and a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our commitment to openness, inclusivity and transparency, we would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type at Oxford.
