PhD position, Machine learning for solving PDEs, Univ of Bath, UK
The UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI) at the University of Bath is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD studentship under the joint supervision of Dr Lisa Maria Kreusser (Department of Mathematical Sciences), Dr Xi Chen (Department of Computer Sciences) and Dr Pranav Singh (Department of Mathematical Sciences). The position is an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of numerical analysis, partial differential equations, and machine learning.
Significant advances in machine learning and data analysis have been achieved in recent years, but current state-of the art machine learning techniques often lack robustness and come without any theoretical guarantees. On the other hand, partial differential equations are an essential tool for modelling in science and engineering which are based on rigorous and well understood scientific principles. This project aims to develop new algorithms and theoretical foundations towards reliable and transparent AI based solutions for nonlinear differential equations describing complex phenomena in nature and engineering.
Funding for this position will be available for up to 4 years, covering tuition fees and maintenance at the national doctoral stipend rate.
