We hope to be able to appoint a Research Associate in Machine Learning to work on personalised education for programming. This research project is funded by Innovate UK and led by Professor Mihaela van der Schaar in collaboration with Cambridge Spark as industrial partner. The successful role holder will be based in the Department and be expected to visit the London office of Cambridge Spark from time to time.

The role will be dedicated to research innovative algorithms to develop recommendations to students. Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

The successful candidate will have, or be about to receive, a PhD in mathematics, computer science, or equivalent; they will also have a proven background in a relevant skill such as machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, statistics, big data, with Python programming experience. In addition, they will have evidence of publications in leading Machine Learning journals or conferences.
