Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Mathematical Modelling of the Impact of Hypoxia Dynamics on Therapeutic Responses in Breast Cancer
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professor Helen Byrne on an exciting new Cancer Research UK funded project, using mathematical and computational modelling to understand the impact of hypoxia dynamics on therapeutic responses in breast cancer. The position is available for 33 months and the postholder will be based here at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.
The successful candidate will join a successful multi-disciplinary team comprising of researchers at the Mathematical Institute and Department of Oncology, University of Oxford, and the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, with the ultimate aim of investigating how cycling hypoxia, or low oxygen levels, affects the growth and response of tumours to treatment in vitro. You will use mathematical and computational modelling techniques via the group’s existing programming software, Microvessel Chaste, to simulate blood flow initially through artificial vessel networks, and later through biological vessel networks derived from photoacoustic images.
Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. You must have prior experience of developing and applying numerical methods to solve systems of partial differential equations (PDEs), and an ability to program in C++ or a similar language. Previous experience of the multiscale modelling of biological systems is desirable.
