Advert text:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in cosmology at the University of Cambridge. This ERC-funded position will be based at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and the Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge.
Candidates should be qualified to undertake research in the areas of CMB, large-scale structure, cosmological tests of fundamental physics, or other areas of cosmology. While the main selection criterion is research excellence and strong researchers in any area of cosmology will be seriously considered, candidates interested in collaborating with Dr Blake Sherwin to work on CMB gravitational lensing, CMB polarization, large-scale structure or combined probes (potentially within the ACT, POLARBEAR, Simons Observatory, and/or CMB-S4 collaborations) may be of particular interest.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate broadly with Cambridge faculty members and researchers within the Kavli Institute for Cosmology, the Stephen Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology and relevant groups in the Institute of Astronomy and the Cavendish Laboratory.
The ideal candidate will have completed (or be about to complete) a PhD in Physics, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Astronomy or a closely related area, and will have demonstrated a capacity to produce world-class research.
Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The candidate will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area. An allowance for research expenses is included in this position.
Appointment will be made at Postdoctoral Research Associate level, or, for an exceptionally well-qualified candidate, at Senior Research Associate level. In this case, additional duties would include managing research budgets and programmes and identifying sources of funding.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
