Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistics
Department of Statistics, St Giles, Oxford
Grade 8: £40,792 – £48,677 p.a.
As a consequence of the ERC funding of the project General Theory for Big Bayes of Judith Rousseau, the Department of Statistics is recruiting for a 3 year postdoctoral position.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistics to join our dynamic and collaborative team with effect from October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department carries out world-leading research in applied statistics fields including statistical and population genetics and bioinformatics, as well as core theoretical statistics, computational statistics, machine learning and probability. You will be a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research for the ERC project General Theory for Big Bayes with Judith Rousseau. You will manage your own academic research and contribute to new research projects.
As the successful Postdoctoral Researcher, you will hold or be working towards a PhD/DPhil in statistics, mathematics or a related subject, together with relevant experience. You will have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations. Experience in theoretical properties of Bayesian procedures and/or approximate Bayesian methods is desirable but not essential.
This post is fixed-term for 3 years, in the first instance.
Whilst this role is a Grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 7 (£32,236 – £39,609 with a discretionary range to £43,267 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 17 May 2019 will be considered. Interviews will be held on 28 May 2019.
