The University of Bremen, Faculty 3 Mathematics/Computer Science is offering a permanent professorship position (f/m/d) (Bes. Gr. W2) in Computer Science in the area of

Theoretical Computer Science with a focus on Theory of Artificial Intelligence.

The department is looking to complement the existing expertise in theoretical computer science by hiring a candidate whose research area is theoretical computer science with a focus on the theory of artificial intelligence (such as logic-based AI, formal foundations of knowledge representation, algorithms for data analysis, big data analytics and coping with uncertainty) and should have close connections to at least one of the following areas

– Algorithmics
– Complexity
– Formal Methods.

The department is looking for an internationally recognized candidate (f/m/d) with broad teaching and research experience and with a high-quality nationally and internationally visible scientific record. High-ranking publications and experience with third-party funding by renowned agencies (e.g. DFG, federal ministries, EU) are required.

The willingness to cooperate with colleagues in the department as well as a commitment to the interdisciplinary research cluster “Minds, Media, Machines” is expected. The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) offers further opportunities for collaboration. Engagement to participate in larger collaborative projects is desired.

The department is engaged in international study programs and therefore expects teaching experience in international contexts. The candidate (f/m/d) is expected to represent theoretical computer science in the department’s bachelor’s and master’s programs, also in the context of student projects. Participation in English-language degree programs, innovative teaching approaches, and a willingness to experiment in (digital) teaching are prerequisites. Active promotion of young academics is expected.

Willingness to participate in academic administrative services is required.
