Applications are invited for a 24-month Research Associate position in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, University of Cambridge. The position is funded by the EPSRC New Investigator Grant EP/V051830/1 titled “Curve counting, moduli, and logarithmic geometry” held by Dr Dhruv Ranganathan. The post holder would work broadly within the Algebraic Geometry group, made up of Dr Dhruv Ranganathan, Professor Mark Gross, and the PhD students and existing postdoctoral researchers within the group. The post is available for 2 years from 1 October 2021.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in a subject close to algebraic geometry, or have an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. There is no limit on prior postdoctoral experience. The applicant must have a demonstrable research track record in algebraic geometry or a related discipline, and it is essential that they have experience working in one of the following areas: Gromov-Witten theory and related areas; the geometry of moduli spaces; toric and tropical geometry. The project aims to exploit the connections between these areas, so an ideal candidate will possess a substantial willingness to explore areas outside their existing areas of expertise. They will be expected to participate in local seminars and internal group meetings, and may be asked to assist in the informal mentorship of students and to deliver seminars relating to the research area.
