Research Associates x 3 (Fixed Term)
We are seeking three postdoctoral research associates to join the ongoing research project on the ‘Stratified Turbulence and Mixing Processes’ (STAMP) funded by the European Research Council. The research is focused on stratified turbulence generated in a sustained shear flow in a new Stratified Inclined Duct (SID) apparatus. We are seeking a laboratory experimentalist, a computational fluid dynamicist and a person with interests in data assimilation and the application of AI to turbulent flows. The experimentalist should have experience in either particle image velocimetry or laser induced fluorescence and the computationalist in either direct numerical simulations or large eddy simulations. The third post will require some experience in machine learning algorithms or data assimilation. In all cases familiarity with stratified turbulence is also very desirable.
Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives. The role holders will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to your research area.
The successful candidates will have or be about to receive a PhD in mathematics, engineering or a closely related area. The starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
