Applications are invited for a full-time Research Software Engineer to join our team at Oxford University Statistical Consulting. The Oxford Protein Informatics group http://opig.stats.ox.ac.uk/ (OPIG) has developed a large number of world leading computational tools which have proved to be of high interest to several pharmaceutical companies. The role of Research Software Engineer supports these companies with deployment, maintenance, future developments and integration of the tools with their own in-house systems and requirements. This exciting position is unique within the University and will provide an unrivalled and privileged opportunity to interact directly with a highly productive academic group and many pharmaceutical companies.

The Research Software Engineer’s main duties and responsibilities will include working closely with contacts from industrial partners to support the implementation, maintenance and integration of OPIG’s antibody software platforms within external organisations. They will ensure successful identification, planning and implementation of projects to deploy, maintain, develop and integrate the software, in accordance with the in-house systems and their requirements. Alongside these responsibilities, they will carry out research and develop novel methodologies in at least one of the areas of research in OPIG. They will also contribute ideas for new research projects, develop ideas for generating research income and act as a source of information and advice for other members of the research group.

Applicants are sought who are close to completion or hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification research experience. They will have significant experience with coding in a wide variety of languages and platforms, Python in particular. They will also have prior experience of collaboratively developing software tools in the areas of computational chemistry, structural biology/bioinformatics, statistics or machine learning and have the ability to work independently and strategically in an enthusiastic manner to maximise the impact of pre-existing software platforms and tools.
