The Board of Electors to The Sadleirian Professorship of Pure Mathematics invite applications for this position to take up appointment from January 2024 or a mutually agreed date thereafter.
The Sadleirian Professorship stems from sums received by the University following the death of Lady Mary Sadleir in 1706. The Professorship was established in 1860 and the first holder was Arthur Cayley. Other holders include G.H. Hardy, Louis Mordell, J.W.S. Cassels and J. H. Coates. The Professorship is held in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics.
In filling the Professorship, the Department seeks either to reinforce existing strength or to develop new directions in some core area of Pure Mathematics.
Candidates will have an outstanding research record of international stature in Pure Mathematics and the vision, leadership, experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths in maintaining and developing a leading research presence. They will hold a PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Standard professorial duties include teaching and research, examining, supervision and administration. The Professor will be based in Cambridge. A competitive salary will be offered.
