The Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing is looking for a

University assistant without doctorate (m/f/d)

40 hours a week
fixed-term employment for 4 years*
position to be filled as of now

At the university location Graz with three universities, there is an
established interdisciplinary cooperation network of
several research groups in the areas of Inverse Problems, Machine
Learning, Optimization and Medical Image
Processing. The advertised faculty position is part of the research group
“Mathematics of Data Science” at the Institute
of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz, and
is closely integrated into this cooperation
network. The position focuses on research in mathematical foundations
and interdisciplinary applications of machine
learning and inverse problems. In addition to cooperation in the group
“Mathematics of Data Science”, the position is
characterized by a high degree of autonomy; there is the possibility to
conduct independent research, apply for thirdparty
funding projects, teach courses, and supervise theses.

Your duties
Writing of a dissertation in the field of mathematics
Research in the field of Applied Mathematics, with a focus on machine
learning and inverse problems
Participation in projects conducted by the research group on
“Mathematics of Data Science”
Participation in research projects and contribution to acquisition of the
necessary third-party funding
Independent implementation of courses and proportionate holding of
examinations in the field of Applied
Mathematics
Support of students
Participation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as in
evaluation measures

Your Profile
Master‘s degree in Mathematics
Solid knowledge in the analysis and the numerical solution of research
problems in Applied Mathematics
Solid knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Machine
Learning, Inverse Problems,
Optimization,Variational Image Processing, Calculus of Variations
(desirable)
Programming skills (e.g. in Python, C++)
Ability to teach in German and English
Enjoyment of scientific work and dealing with students
Sense of personal responsibility and ability to work with others
Communication skills and ability to work in a team

Classification
Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective
Agreement): B1
Minimum Salary
The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and
according to the classification scheme is EUR
45.882,20 gross/year (for full-time employment). This minimum salary
may be higher due to previous employment
periods eligible for inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
