University of Liverpool / 29 Sept 23 / Professor and Head of Department of Mathematical Sciences
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is a substantial unit within the School of Physical Sciences. Our world-leading research is wide ranging, with strategic investment balanced to ensure the sustainability of fundamental research, as supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding councils E.P.S.R.C and S.T.F.C, whilst also grasping opportunities to develop a global footprint in high-impact interdisciplinary research. We deliver excellent teaching that covers the full breadth of mathematical sciences, and also links to other disciplines through combined programmes.
We are looking to appoint the next Head of Department to lead and shape the future direction of our world-leading Mathematical Sciences Department.
Reporting to the Dean of School, you will provide strong leadership to the Department of Mathematical Sciences and will have significant management and operational responsibilities. You will work closely with the Dean of School and the School Leadership Team in developing the School and Department strategic plans and will be responsible for implementing plans at departmental level. You will have a key role in defining and implementing the Research and Impact Strategy for Mathematical Sciences, ensuring an outward looking research agenda. You will assume a professorial role in the School and will be expected to establish research and teaching contributions alongside the headship responsibilities.
The School of Physical Sciences is an Athena SWAN Silver Award holder and is committed to encouraging, developing, and supporting individuals in their research and academic careers. The Department of Mathematical Sciences is a supporter of the London Mathematical Society Good Practice Scheme which aims to embed equal opportunities for women within the working practices of mathematics departments. We strongly encourage applications from individuals from groups underrepresented within our workforce, particularly women and people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background.
Short-listed candidates will be invited to the University, and will have the opportunity to meet key members of the Department. We anticipate that presentations and interviews will take place on 3rd November 2023.
