Wellcome AAMR PhD Training Programme – mathematics applicants encouraged
Dear Colleagues
I am pleased to announce that we are now open for applications to recruit our fourth cohort of students on our Wellcome Trust funded PhD training programme in Antimicrobials and Antimicrobial Resistance (AAMR). This 4 year programme is being jointly delivered with Nottingham and will be looking to recruit a further 10 students for the September 2019 intake (a total of 31 students have been recruited to date within the 2016, 2017 and 2018 intakes – see http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/mds-graduate-school/wellcome-aamr/cohort.aspx for student details). The deadline for receipt of applications from potential students is the 7th January 2019. The usual eligibility criteria apply and students can be recruited from the UK and EU countries. More details about the programme and how to apply can be found on the dedicated website for this programme (see www.birmingham.ac.uk/wellcome-aamr). Research projects will be developed during the first year in consultation with the selected supervisors chosen from research themes that include:
• Targeting the Gram-negative bacterial cell envelope
• Unconventional approaches to eradicating bacterial pathogens
• Smart materials
• Surface and secreted antigens, host interactions and vaccines
• Genomic epidemiology, bacterial evolution and antibiotic resistance
